Pre-Plant Wheat School to be held

Production and management decisions are critical for success in growing wheat especially with volatile wheat prices. Plan to attend a Pre-Plant Wheat School that will be held on Aug.13 starting at 12:30 p.m. at the Ness County Fairgrounds in Ness City, Kan. A sponsored lunch will be available at 12:30 a.m. and the program follows. There is no cost to attend the meeting, but please RSVP (call 800-460-9079) by Aug. 10 so enough food can be ordered.

Jim Shroyer, K-State Crops Specialist, will discuss which varieties have the potential for high production, other variety considerations, and general production practices. Brian Olson, K-State Crops Specialist NW Area, will provide information on soil fertility for wheat production, no-till wheat and weed control. Erick DeWolf, Plant Pathology Specialist, will talk about wheat diseases that are important in wheat production and what practices should be addressed to control these diseases.

This school is sponsored by the Walnut Creek Extension District and the following sponsors: Bazine Cooperative, Garden City Co-op, Bondurant Grain, Midland Marketing, Mid State Co-op, Dodge City Co-op at Beeler and DuPont Crop Protection.

K-State Research and Extension is committed to making its services, activities, and programs accessible to all participants.
