Fall Beef Cattle Workshop set Aug. 20 in Helotes

Texas

The 2009 Fall Beef Cattle Workshop, sponsored by the Texas AgriLife Extension Service, will be held from 6 p.m. to 9:15 p.m., Aug. 20 at the Helotes 4-H Center, 1234 Leslie Rd.

The workshop is free. Participating agencies include AgriLife Extension, the Alamo Resource Conservation and Development Area of Boerne, Farm Service Agency and the Texas/Mexico Border Coalition. Also participating will be Gene Brehm, a certified public accountant based in San Antonio.

"We will cover a variety of practical topics for the cattle producer and others involved in the beef cattle industry and associated agribusinesses," said Jerry Warren, AgriLife Extension agent for agriculture in Bexar County. Warren said topics for this year's workshop will include a resource conservation and development program update, a Farm Service Agency program overview, tax-planning concepts for farmers and ranchers, and cattle-marketing cycles for stocking, culling and replacement cattle.

Two continuing education credits in the general category will be given for participation.

The program will include a snack and refreshment break, as well as question-and-answer session.

"Our intent in the workshop is to give producers and others objective, useful information they can apply to their benefit in their own operations," Warren said. To RSVP, contact Annette Pawelek at 210-467-6575 or apawelek@ag.tamu.edu by Aug. 18.
