Nebraska man accused of possessing stolen Kansas cattleBEATRICE, Neb. (AP)--Beatrice police have arrested a 51-year-old Nebraska man suspected of possessing cattle stolen in Kansas. Thomas Baum, of Tecumseh, was arrested March 30 at the Beatrice 77 Livestock Sales, which is north of Beatrice on U.S. Highway 77. Lt. Mike Oliver says Baum faces one count of possession of stolen property, a felony charge that carries a possible sentence of 20 years in prison. Oliver said March 31 the nine Black Angus cows and six calves were stolen from an operation near Alma in northeast Kansas. He says the owners called several sale barns and described the cattle, which were discovered at the Beatrice barn. Oliver would not say how Baum came to be in possession of the cattle. Baum was still in custody.
