Random urine sampling of National Western Junior Auction sale animals revealed a prohibited substance in one of the 2009 market lambs. After further testing and a detailed review of the facts, the Executive Livestock Committee of the National Western Stock Show has reached the decision that the entry be disqualified.
The Executive Livestock Committee also made the decision that the exhibitor must return all ribbons, banners and awards, and all premiums and sale proceeds will be forfeited. Also, youth members of the family may continue to show at the National Western Stock Show but their animals will be tested with the cost of testing being borne by the family for a probation period of three years. The exhibitor has been sent an explanatory letter detailing the decisions of the Committee.
"The National Western Stock Show will not tolerate cheating, tampering or unethical fitting," said Pat Grant, National Western President and CEO. "We stand behind our commitment and obligation to uphold the highest standards of honesty, integrity and fair showmanship."
