Kansas Limousin breeders held 17th annual spring sale in Salina

The 17th annual KLBA Spring Sale was held April 4. The sun and wind greeted buyers to this annual event at the Farmers and Ranchers Livestock Commission Company. This year due to Palm Sunday the sale was moved to April 4. The sale was managed by the Kansas Limousin Breeders Association and was auctioneered by Chisum Peterson of Chamberlain, S.D.

In the bull offering there were some real stout 2 year olds along with some very growthy fall yearling and spring yearling bulls. The top seller in the 2 year olds was Lot #3, Beikmann TV Remote; this black-polled 3-15-07 son of MAGS Remote was consigned by Beikmann Land and Limousin of Linn, Kan. and sold to Robert Larson of McPherson, Kan., for $2,900. The second highest seller in the 2 year old division was Lot #1 BOHI Titlelist 7050T a 3-8-07 homozygous black son of AUTO Dollar General and Carrousels Pina Colada consigned by James Bohi of Stillwater, Okla. This lot sold to Bud Thomas of Twin Willow Farms of Springfield, Mo. for $2,600.

The fall yearling category was another popular group of bulls, the highest seller in this age was Lot #13, BKBS 953T a black polled 10-14-07 embryo son of Carrousels Pure Power and was consigned by Blazin K Limousin of Moundridge, Kan. This popular lot sold to Rodney Biesenthal of Onaga, Kan., for $2,700. The next high seller was Lot #19 Dustin 725T, a 10-17-07 black polled son of PBRS Nibbler 524R and sold to Dale Stiles of D. Stiles Farms of Spring Hill, Kan., for $2,400. Dustin Limousin Ranch of Harrisonville, Mo. consigned this popular lot.

The high seller in the spring yearling category was a substitute lot, PTAL Ultimate 804U this 1-28-08 homozygous black and polled son of Wulf's Parker sold to Warta Ranch of Ellsworth, Kan. for $2,400. The next high seller in this age group was Lot #24

PTAL Mr. Universe 802U a homozygous black and polled son of RMKR Goaline 441N and sold for $2,100 to Kenneth Schrag of Moundridge, Kan. Both of these lots were consigned by Pine Tree Acres Limousin, Parker, Kan.

The spring calving cows were very popular with the buyers, Lot #42/42A was consigned by Crow Cattle Company of Holt, Mo. This 9-28-06 homozygous black, polled daughter of JCL Field Goal and her 1-16-09 black bull calf sired by Clear Creek Shipman 187S brought $1,600 from Ed Junek of Cuba, Kan. Lot #40/40A brought $1,600 from buyer, Mark Beikmann of Beikmann Land and Limousin, Linn, Kan. DBLE Rich Girl was a 4-7-05 black, polled daughter of VORE Killian and at her side was a 3-16-09-heifer calf sired by BOHI Top Dollar. Diamond D Ranch of Alma, Kan., consigned this nice pair.

LFRO Tiffany 756T, 9-2-07 daughter of Wulfs Nobel Prize was the top selling bred heifer, she was consigned by Rolf Limousin of LeRoy, Kan. She sold bred to AUTO Diesel Power for a fall calf. She sold for $1,500 to David Van Tassel of Gypsum, Kan.

JANC Cattle of Baldwin City, Kan., sold two black polled heifers, which were half sisters out of JANC Count Down, and they both sold bred to CRSL 5034R and sold to Lon Faidley of Bar F Limousin, Solomon, Kan., for $1,150 each.

Lot #53 PTAL Utopia 817U, a 3-26-08 homozygous black, polled daughter of Wulfs Nobel Prize, was the high selling open heifer, she was halter broke and ready for showing. She sold to Tyler Warta of Ellsworth, Kan., at $1,600 and was consigned by Pine Tree Acres of Parker, Kan. Lauren Gassman of Grainfield, Kan., won the bidding on Lot #51 LFRO Up and Coming 823U, she was halter broke and ready for the show ring. This 3-14-08 black and homozygous polled daughter of AUTO Diesel Power brought $1,500 for Rolf Limousin of LeRoy, Kan.

Schilling Limousin of Edson, Kan., donated Lot #52- Schilling's Unrehersed, a 3-13-08 daughter of Carrousels Nasdaq, to Ashley Schrag the premature daughter of Bruce and Kelly Schrag of Moundridge, Kan., to help offset medical expenses. This heifer was bought by a syndicate of generous Limousin — DeLaTorre Limousin, Roman and Debbie DeLaTorre; Ratliff Cherry Creek Farms, David Ratliff Family and Gail Ratliff; Circle D, Ranch-Kyle and Terri Dye; Rocky Top Limousin Farms, Chris Campbell Family; Super C Farms, Randy and Nancy Corns; Rolf Limousin, Walt, Jackie and Megan Rolf; Diamond D Ranch, Marc and Lynn Deever; Thowe Limousin-Wayne and Karen Thowe; Kaw Valley Limousin, Jim Hays and David Persons; Braun Limousin Farms, David and Kori Braun; Pine Tree Acres Limousin, Jerry, Pat, Ben and Kristin Meek; Love Brothers Farms, John and Keith Love; Cash and Amanda Schilling; Dean and Beverly Summerbell and Liberty Ranch. The heifer was then donated back to be resold. After the bidding was done Cole Smith of Plainville, Kan., bought the heifer. The heifer brought a total of $2,750 for Ashley. We would like to thank everyone for the generosity and especially to the Schilling Family- Ron, Marsha, Cash and Amanda, Chance and Kristy and Clay for donating the heifer for this great cause.
