Dodge City livestock sales report

Dodge City Winter Livestock, Inc., reported receipts of 3,884 head April 15, compared to 4,011 head last week and 3,444 head last year, according to the USDA-Kansas Department of Agriculture Market News, Dodge City, Kan.

Compared with last week, steers at 300 to 750 pounds were firm in an extremely limited supply, and 750 to 950 pounds were $2 to $4 higher. Heifers at 300 to 600 pounds were firm in a very limited supply, 600 to 750 pounds were firm to $1 higher, and 750 to 900 pounds were $2 to $3 higher. Slaughter cows were firm to $1 higher. Slaughter bulls were steady. Trade was active, demand very good. Receipts included 86% 600 pounds and over, 8% 600 pounds and under, 6% slaughter cows and bulls with 248 head, early. The feeder supply was 50% steers and 50% heifers.

Medium and large frame 1 to 2, solid mouth, 6 head, 1179 lbs., with 175- to 225-lb. calves, 1050.00; short solid to broken mouth, 8 head, 1171 lbs., with 175- to 225-lb. calves, 930.00; 26 head, 1262 lbs., with 200- to 250-lb. calves, 960.00. Slaughter cows: Boners, 80 to 85% lean, 49.50 to 54.00. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 45.50 to 52.50; high dressing, 53.00 to 54.00; low dressing, 35.00 to 45.00.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 61.00 to 65.00; low dressing, 55.00 to 59.00; Yield grade 2 to 3, low dressing, 48.50.
