Colorado Wheat, ConAgra deliver 24 tons of wheat, tour Food Bank of the Rockies

Colorado

Following the National Agriculture Day event at the State Capitol March 18, Colorado Wheat Administrative Committee and Colorado Association of Wheat Growers officers and Colorado Agriculture Commissioner John Stulp met with Mike Martin and Jason Brandt of Commerce City Grain/ConAgra, and Food Bank of the Rockies CEO Kevin Seggelke at the Food Bank warehouse to tour the facility and inspect the pallets of flour donated by the three organizations.

CWAC, CAWG and ConAgra Mills donated 24 tons (48,000 pounds) of Ultragrain flour to the Food Bank of the Rockies in honor of National Agriculture Week. The donation will provide 9,600 5-pound bags of the nutritional flour for distribution to families in need in the Denver metro area. This is enough flour to make over 100,000 one-pound loaves of bread.

"This is really gold for us," said Seggelke. "This flour will be gone from this warehouse by next week. We have already had agencies calling and asking about it."

Seggelke said that flour is a popular staple item. "The agencies that we help are not looking for microwavable meals, they are looking for the staple items that people can use to cook for themselves." Seggelke also said that flour is normally an item that the Food Bank would have to purchase, so it really helps to have it as a donation.
