Pratt livestock sales report

Pratt Livestock Sales Inc., Pratt, Kan., reported receipts of 953 head April 2, compared to 5,423 head last week and 4,778 head last year, according to the USDA-Kansas Department of Agriculture Market News, Dodge City, Kan.

Receipts were curtailed due to last week's blizzard. Compared to last week, feeder steers at 800 pounds and under were not enough for a market, however a higher undertone was noted, and those weighing 800 to 950 pounds were steady to $2 higher. Feeder heifers at 700 pounds and under in light supply were steady, and at 700 to 900 pounds were steady to $1 higher. Slaughter cows and bulls were steady to $1 higher. Trade was active. Demand was good. Receipts included 74% over 600 pounds, 15% under 600 pounds, 11% cows and bulls. The feeder supply included 41% steers and 59% heifers.

Feeder steers: Medium and large frame 1, 450 to 500 lbs., 126.00 to 127.00 (126.75); 500 to 550 lbs., 118.00 to 118.50 (118.25); 600 to 650 lbs., 97.25 to 102.00 (99.56); 800 to 850 lbs., 90.35 to 90.85 (90.53) 850 to 900 lbs., 84.50 to 86.85 (86.67); 900 to 950 lbs., 86.50 to 87.75 (87.62). Fleshy, 7 head, 692 lbs., 91.00; 10 head, 718 lbs., 90.00; 11 head, 779 lbs., 86.00.

Feeder heifers: Medium and large frame 1, 400 to 450 lbs., 100.00 to 102.00 (101.32); 7 head, 466 lbs., 103.50; 13 head, 504 lbs., 98.50; 550 to 600 lbs., 92.50 to 94.00 (93.35); 10 head, 600 lbs., 89.00; 700 to 750 lbs., 85.50 to 88.50 (87.69); 750 to 800 lbs., 82.50 to 86.25 (85.73); 65 head, 806 lbs., 83.85; 56 head, 860 lbs., 81.60; Fleshy 18 head, 654 lbs., 86.50. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 650 to 700 lbs., 81.00. Large frame 1, 7 head, 666 lbs., 82.00.

Baby calves: Per head, heifers, 12 head, 113 to 115 lbs., 135.00 to 145.00 (139.12); 4 head, 50 to 90 lbs., 70.00 to 140.00 (100.42).

Slaughter cows: Boners, 80 to 85% lean, 49.00 to 55.00; low dressing, 46.00 to 46.50. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 44.00 to 51.50; low dressing, 30.00 to 43.00.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, average dressing, 58.50 to 65.00; low dressing, 49.00 to 50.50.
