Ft. Smith livestock sales report

The Ft. Smith Livestock, Ft. Smith, Ark., reported receipts of 582 head April 6, compared to 961 head last year, according to the Arkansas Department of Agriculture-USDA Market News Service, Little Rock, Ark.

Compared to two weeks ago, slaughter cows were $2 to $5 higher. Slaughter bulls were $3 higher. Feeder steers and heifers were $2 lower except steer calves under 350 pounds were $5 higher. The supply included 355 feeder calves, 150 feeder yearlings, 17 replacement cows, 48 slaughter cows, 10 slaughter bulls, and 2 replacement bulls. The feeder supply consisted of about 45% English breed and English crosses; 30% Exotic breed and Exotic crosses, 25% Brahma and Brahma crosses, and 0% Holsteins and other dairy breeds. The feeder supply included about 55% steers and bulls with 45% heifers. Prices follow with weighted average price in parenthesis.

Slaughter cows: Breakers, 75 to 80% lean, 1000 to 1500 lbs., 51.00 to 55.00; high dressing, 56.00 to 60.00; low dressing, 46.00 to 50.50. Boners, 80 to 85% lean, 950 to 1400 lbs., 46.00 to 50.50; high dressing, 51.00 to 55.00; low dressing, 41.00 to 45.50. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 900 to 1300 lbs., 41.00 to 45.50; high dressing, 46.00 to 50.00; low dressing, 36.00 to 40.50.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 1000 to 2100 lbs., 57.00 to 60.50; high dressing, 66.00 to 68.00.

Feeder steers: Medium and large frame 1, 300 to 342 lbs., 120.00 to 139.00 (129.12); 355 to 365 lbs., 120.00 to 122.00 (121.44); 400 to 447 lbs., 108.00 to 117.00 (114.36); 450 to 495 lbs., 107.00 to 116.00 (111.11); 500 to 545 lbs., 100.00 to 112.00 (107.28); 555 to 565 lbs., 105.00 to 110.00 (106.74); 600 to 635 lbs., 95.00 to 103.50 (98.39); 765 lbs., 91.00; 805 to 815 lbs., 75.00 to 78.00 (76.49). Replacement cows: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 3 to 7 years old, 850 to 1400 lbs., open cows 50.00 to 57.50; 2 to 4 years old, 850 to 1000 lbs., third stage 60.00 to 69.50.

Pairs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 4 to 6 years old, 900 to 1250 lbs., with 100- to 200-lb. calves 825.00 to 975.00 per pair.
