Dodge City cattle sales report

Dodge City Winter Livestock, Inc., reported receipts of 1,601 head April 1, compared to 3,809 head last week and 4,296 head last year, according to the USDA-Kansas Department of Agriculture Market News, Dodge City, Kan.

Receipts curtailed due to blizzard last week. Compared with last week, steers 300 to 650 pounds not enough for a market test, limited sales steady, 600 to 900 pounds were steady. Heifers 400 to 900 pounds were steady in a very limited supply. Slaughter cows and bulls in an extremely light supply were $2 to $4 higher. Trade and demand were moderate. Receipts included 78% 600 pounds and over, 15% 600 pounds and under, 7% slaughter cows and bulls with 111 head, early. The feeder supply included 66% steers and 44% heifers.

Feeder steers: Medium and large frame 1, 550 to 600 lbs., 108.00 to 114.00 (110.77); 5 head, 607 lbs., 110.50; 650 to 700 lbs., 103.00 to 105.00 (103.80); 61 head, 785 lbs., 92.10; 800 to 850 lbs., 89.00 to 89.60 (89.09); 850 to 900 lbs., 86.00 to 88.25 (87.18); 11 head, 966 lbs., 83.75. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 10 head, 319 lbs., 129.00; 10 head, 374 lbs., 112.00; 500 to 550 lbs., 112.00; 55 head, 745 lbs., 94.00. Medium and large frame 2, 750 to 800 lbs., 87.00 to 87.25 (87.11); 21 head, 948 lbs., 82.00.

Feeder heifers: Medium and large frame 1, 19 head, 483 lbs., 110.00; 600 to 650 lbs., 91.50 to 91.75 (91.69); 64 head, 664 lbs., 89.85; 34 head, 716 lbs., 86.75; 46 head, 750 lbs., 83.75; 57 head, 809 lbs., 83.25; 52 head, 897 lbs., 82.10; 10 head, 924 lbs., 79.25. Fleshy, 10 head, 765 lbs., 81.00; 850 to 900 lbs., 79.75 to 80.10 (79.99). Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 5 head, 528 lbs., 92.50; 550 to 600 lbs., 92.50 to 98.50 (96.04). Medium and large frame 2, 11 head, 542 lbs., 100.00; 15 head, 583 lbs., 90.50; 6 head, 619 lbs., 88.50; 16 head, 721 lbs., 83.00.

Baby calves: Per head, mixed bulls and steers, 3 head, 283 lbs., 290.00; 10 head, 215 to 245 lbs., 280.00 to 370.00 (358.12); one head, 175 lbs., 260.00; 10 head, 100 to 145 lbs., 220.00 to 270.00 (232.12); 4 head, 75 to 95 lbs., 200.00 to 260.00 (222.06); newborns, 4 head, 65 to 80 lbs., 30.00 to 175.00 (83.58). One Holstein, 280 lbs., 110.00. Heifers, 7 head, 177 lbs., 260.00; 3 head, 120 to 145 lbs., 160.00 to 210.00 (175.58); 2 head, 75 to 85 lbs., 110.00 to 200.00 (152.18).

Slaughter cows: Breakers, 75 to 80% lean, 49.00 to 55.50. Boners, 80 to 85% lean, 48.00 to 52.50; low dressing, 50.00 to 55.50. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 45.00 to 51.00; high dressing, 51.50 to 52.50; low dressing, 36.00 to 44.00.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 60.00 to 63.00; high dressing, 66.00 to 67.50; low dressing, 57.00 to 59.50.
