Dalhart cattle auction report

The Cattleman's Livestock Auction, Dalhart, Texas, reported receipts of 1,511 head April 2, compared to 2,297 head last week and 1,750 head last year, according to the Texas Department of Agriculture Market News-USDA Market News, Amarillo, Texas.

Compared to last week, feeder steers and heifers under 600 pounds were firm to $2 higher, over 600 pounds were $2 to $4 higher. Slaughter cows were firm to $2 higher. Slaughter bulls not well tested. Trade was active. Demand was moderate to good. The bulk of the supply were Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 350- to 850-pound feeder steers and heifers. Slaughter cows made up 14% of the offering, replacement cows 1%, and feeders 85%. The feeder supply included 47% steers and 53% heifers, with nearly 71% of the run over 600 pounds.

Steers: Medium and large frame 1, package 306 lbs., pre-conditioned 131.00; 400 to 500 lbs., 114.50 to 119.00, package 424 lbs., pre-conditioned 127.00; package 570 lbs., 108.00, package 538 lbs., thin 117.50; 700 to 800 lbs., 91.00 to 94.00; 800 to 900 lbs., 89.00 to 90.00. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, package 275 lbs., pre-conditioned 126.00; lot 384 lbs., 113.50; 400 to 500 lbs., 104.50 to 108.00; 500 to 600 lbs., 99.00 to 101.00; few 600 to 700 lbs., 88.50 to 93.00; package 715 lbs., 84.00.

Heifers: Medium and large frame 1, two packages 257 to 292 lbs., pre-conditioned 111.00; package 378 lbs., 106.00; few 400 to 500 lbs., 92.00 to 97.00; few 500 to 600 lbs., 96.50 to 97.00; 600 to 700 lbs., 87.50 to 91.00; 700 to 800 lbs., 87.00 to 87.35; package 883 lbs., 78.50. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, lot 367 lbs., 103.50; lot 426 lbs., 94.00; three packages 500 to 554 lbs., 88.00 to 92.00; package 670 lbs., 83.50; 700 to 800 lbs., 82.00 to 84.00. Medium and large frame 2, package 359 lbs., 94.00; few 400 to 500 lbs., 81.00 to 85.00; lot 687 lbs., 97.00.

Slaughter cows: Breakers, 75 to 80% lean, 1500 to 1600 lbs., 48.25 to 49.00. Boners, 80 to 85% lean, 1100 to 1300 lbs., 51.00 to 53.50. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 1000 to 1200 lbs., 45.50 to 49.50; 85 to 90% lean, 800 to 1000 lbs., 44.00 to 48.50; low dressing, 38.00 to 42.75.

Dairy cows: Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 1100 to 1400 lbs., 45.50 to 48.50.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 1100 to 1700 lbs., 54.00 to 64.00.

Replacement cows: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, young to middle-aged, 1000 to 1200 lbs., 7 to 9 months bred, 835.00 to 860.00; middle-aged to aged, 1000 to 1200 lbs., 7 to 9 months bred, 650.00 to 700.00 per head.
