Clovis livestock sales report

The Clovis Livestock Auction Summary, Clovis, N.M., reported receipts of 3,039 head April 1, compared to 2,276 head last week and 1,697 head last year, according to the USDA-New Mexico Department of Agriculture Market News, Clovis, N.M.

Compared to last month, Holstein steers were $2 to $3 higher. Compared to last week, feeder steers under 700 pounds were steady, instances were $4 higher on 300- to 400-pound thin offerings, and over 700 pounds were $3 higher. Heifers under 700 pounds were steady, and over 700 pounds were $7 higher, compared to limited offerings last week . Slaughter cows were $1 to $3 higher, instances were $5 higher on high yield cows. Bulls were steady to strong. Trade was very active especially on slaughter cows and demand good. The bulk of the supply were Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 300- to 800-pound feeder steers and heifers. Slaughter cows were 10% of the offering, slaughter bulls 2%, bred, cows 8%, pairs 8%, feeders 72%. The feeder supply included 43% steers; 31% holstein steers; 25% heifers, with 31% over 600 pounds.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 1300 to 2070 lbs., 58.00 to 65.75; high dressing, 1500 to 1770 lbs., 67.00 to 68.50; low dressing, 1000 to 1300 lbs., 53.00 to 55.00. Holsteins, Yield grade 1 to 2, 1405 to 1835 lbs., 56.50 to 65.25.

Replacement cows: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, young to middle-aged, 800 to 1440 lbs., 3 to 8 months bred, 570.00 to 775.00, per head; 1000 to 1612 lbs., fancy cows 6 to 8 months bred, 800.00 to 960.00, per head; middle-aged to aged, 900 to 1150 lbs., 6 to 8 months bred, 590.00 to 720.00, per head; aged, 800 to 1150 lbs., 6 to 8 months bred, 560.00 to 650.00, per head.
