Arkansas livestock auction summary

The weekly summary of livestock sales in Arkansas for the week ending April 2, showed estimated receipts of 8,060 head, compared to 9,979 head last week and 6,415 head last year, according to the Arkansas Extension Service-USDA Market News, Little Rock, Ark.

Compared to last week, slaughter cows sold $1 to $2 higher. Slaughter bulls sold $1 to $2 higher. Feeder steers under 500 pounds sold steady, weights over 500 pounds sold weak to $3 lower Feeder heifers sold mostly steady. The supply included 5,010 stocker and feeder calves, 1,740 feeder yearlings, 600 replacement cows, 600 slaughter cows and 100 slaughter bulls. The yearling supply included 43% yearling heifers.

Slaughter cows: Breakers, 75 to 80% lean, 1000 to 1500 lbs., 45.00 to 51.00; high dressing, 51.00 to 55.00. Boners, 80 to 85% lean, 950 to 1400 lbs., 43.00 to 49.00; high dressing, 49.00 to 55.00; low dressing, 36.00 to 43.00. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 900 to 1300 lbs., 39.00 to 45.00; high dressing, 45.00 to 53.00; low dressing, 33.00 to 39.00. Light, 85 to 92% lean, 700 to 950 lbs., 32.00 to 38.00; low dressing, 22.00 to 32.00.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 1000 to 2100 lbs., 54.00 to 62.00; high dressing, 62.00 to 67.50; low dressing, 42.00 to 53.00.
