Amarillo cattle sales report

The Amarillo Livestock Auction, Amarillo, Texas, reported receipts of 761 head April 7, compared to 819 head last week and 1,092 head last year, according to the USDA-Texas Department of Agriculture Market News, Amarillo, Texas.

Compared to last week, feeder steers and heifers were $2 to $5 higher on a very limited test. Light weight heifer calves in particular were extremely active. Slaughter cows and bulls were fully $2 to $4 higher. The bulk of the supply were Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 400- to 850-pound feeder steers and heifers. Trade and demand were moderate to good.

Steers: Medium and large frame 1, package 268 lbs., 126.00; package 397 lbs., lbs., 119.00; 400 to 500 lbs., 111.00 to 120.00; 550 to 600 lbs., 102.00 to 106.50; package 806 lbs., 88.50; package 959 lbs., 80.00. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, package 520 lbs., 102.50; part load 661 lbs., 90.00; load 712 lbs., 95.00; 800 to 875 lbs., 84.00 to 85.50.

Heifers: Medium and large frame 1, 300 to 400 lbs., 102.00 to 103.00; 400 to 500 lbs., 104.00 to 108.00; 500 to 550 lbs., 104.00 to 106.00; package 799 lbs., 79.50. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 300 to 400 lbs., few 93.00; 400 to 500 lbs., 86.00 to 95.00; package 513 lbs., 91.50; 600 to 700 lbs., 83.00 to 84.00. Medium and large frame 2 to 3, package 440 lbs., 85.00; 550 to 600 lbs., 79.00 to 84.00; 600 to 650 lbs., 78.50 to 83.00.

Slaughter cows: Boners, 80 to 85% lean, 1100 to 1400 lbs., 48.50 to 52.00; high dressing, 52.50 to 54.00; low dressing, 45.00 to 47.00. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 1000 to 1200 lbs., 49.00 to 51.50; low dressing, 44.00 to 48.00; 85 to 90% lean, 800 to 1000 lbs., 45.25 to 48.00; low dressing, 38.00 to 43.00.

Dairy cows: Breakers, 75 to 80% lean, 1400 to 1900 lbs., 52.75 to 53.00; low dressing, 47.00 to 50.00. Boners, 80 to 85% lean, 1200 to 1700 lbs., 52.00 to 53.75; high dressing, 54.00 to 56.00; low dressing, 49.00 to 51.00. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 1000 to 1400 lbs., 47.50 to 50.00; high dressing, 50.00 to 54.00; low dressing, 35.00 to 46.00.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 1500 to 1800 lbs., 62.00 to 65.00; high dressing, 1700 to 2100 lbs., 63.75 to 68.00; Holstein, 1200 to 1700 lbs., 51.50 to 62.25.

Replacement cows: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, young to middle aged, 850 to 1300 lbs., 4 to 8 months bred 550.00 to 670.00 per head.

Pairs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, middle aged, 900 to 1350 lbs., with 75- to 200-lb. calves 585.00 to 810.00 per pair.
