Pratt livestock auction report

Pratt Livestock Sales Inc., Pratt, Kan., reported receipts of 5,789 head, Aug. 28, compared to 4,505 head, last week and 3,221 head, last year, according to the USDA-Kansas Department of Agriculture Market News, Dodge City, Kan.

Compared with last week, feeder steers were 700 to 1000 pounds were steady to $2 lower with bulk of trade steady to $1 lower. Feeder heifers at 600 to 900 pounds $2 lower. Steers under 700 pounds and heifers under 600 pounds were steady to weak on a light offering. Slaughter cows $1 to mostly $2 lower, slaughter bulls were $2 to $3 lower, most of the offering low dressing. Trade was moderate and demand good. Receipts included 88% over 600 pounds; 5% under 600 pounds and 7% slaughter cows and bulls. The feeder supply consisted of 69% steers and 31% heifers.

Feeder cows: Heiferettes, 44 head, 61.50 to 91.75 (81.81).

Slaughter cows: Boner s, 80 to 85% lean, 61.50 to 63.00; low dressing, 51.50 to 54.50. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 52.00 to 58.50; high dressing, 59.50 to 61.00; low dressing, 43.00 to 51.75.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 70.00 to 73.00; low dressing, 46.00 to 68.00.
