Moisture levels still below average

Colorado

Most of Colorado experienced precipitation levels below average for this time of year during the week ending Aug. 31, according to the National Agricultural Statistics Service, Colorado Field Office, Sept. 2.

Temperatures averaged a little above normal. Producers were allowed 6.6 days in the field for operations.

Spring barley was 62 percent harvested in mostly good condition. Spring wheat was 40 percent harvested and is rated in mostly good condition.

The corn crop was 93 percent at or beyond the dough stage, 42 percent dented and 4 percent mature with the crop in mostly good condition last week. Sorghum was 99 percent headed, 87 percent turning color, and 10 percent mature with the crop in mostly fair condition by week's end.

Pasture and range conditions across Colorado were rated mostly fair to good. Second cutting alfalfa was 99 percent complete while third cutting was 45 percent complete. The crop was rated in mostly good to fair condition.

Death losses for cattle were rated average while sheep and lambs were rated just below average. Stored feed supplies were rated average.
