McAlester livestock sales reportThe McAlester Union Livestock Market, McAlester, Okla., reported receipts of 1,400 head Sept. 2, compared to 2,450 head last week and 1,075 head last year, according to the Oklahoma Department of Agriculture Market News, Oklahoma City, Okla. Compared to last week, stocker and feeder cattle were mostly steady and not well tested due to the Labor Day holiday. There was a good attendance of buyers and active trade. Cattle were in thin to medium flesh, few fleshy. Mostly plain to average cattle with few attractive offerings were in the yards. Receipts included 60% steers, 28% heifers, 13% bulls with 48% of the feeders over 600 pounds. Slaughter cows and bulls were steady with light holiday numbers. A total of 190 cows sold with 60% going to packers.
