K-State Horticulture Field Day in Colby Aug. 28

Come to the 2008 Kansas State University Northwest Research-Extension Center's Horticulture Field Day Aug. 28 to learn tips and practices on better lawn care, home garden vegetable production, tree care practices, and flower variety selection.

K-State Turfgrass specialist Rodney St. John will present an informative overview on proper care practices for warm-season and cool-season grasses including weed control, fertilization and care practices. K-State Food Crops Specialist Ted Carey will present an informative overview on vegetable production and common pest and disease problems found in Kansas gardens. Ellis County Horticulturist Holly Werth will present an informative overview of proper tree selection, planting and care. K-State Horticulture Specialist Alan Stevens will present an informative overview of his extensive research in annual and perennial flowers--discussing the Prairie Star Annual and Prairie Bloom Perennial selections that give the best performance in Kansas gardens.

Visitors can tour the trial gardens and display gardens to get an up-close view of recommended flowers for Kansas' prairie climate. These specialists will also be available to answer specific questions for those in attendance. The Horticulture Field Day is free of charge, and begins with registration at 5:30 p.m., on the KSU-NWREC grounds. For more information, please contact the main office at 785-462-6281.
