Grazing management tour Sept. 16

Colorado

Join fellow ranchers on a Grazing Management Tour Sept. 16 in Baca County. See some different country, and just possibly learn a thing or two.

Baca County Conservation District, the Colorado Grazing Lands Conservation Initiative Committee, and the Colorado Section of the Society for Range Management are hosting the event. While at various range locations, the group will discuss different grazing management techniques, and see the benefits first hand.

The day will begin at 9 a.m., at Clyde and Carol Greer's house (11707 County Road SS). The group will tour a McEndree Ranch range site first. A free lunch will be provided back at Greer's round top. The tour will conclude with a range site on Bud Bamber's ranch.

A host of knowledgeable Discussion Facilitators will be on hand: Tim Steffens (Springfield, NRCS), Roy Roath (CSU Cooperative Extension), Floyd Reed and Scott Woodall (USFS). Discussion will focus on making changes in grazing management that can result in Extending the Green Forage Season, Decreasing the Need for Supplemental Feed, and Improving Moisture Capture and Use by Plants.

RSVP with Misty or Shandra at 719-523-4522, ext. 3, by Sept. 12.
