FFA members attend iLife Alumni Leadership Camp

Oklahoma

The Balko FFA Chapter was represented at the 36th annual Oklahoma FFA Alumni Leadership Camp at Camp Tulakogee near Wagoner. More than 1,500 FFA members from all across Oklahoma attended one of four, three and one-half day sessions June 29 to July 12, including Tanner Blosser, Tiffany Bonner, Kyla Cowan, Jordie Jett, Chris Konkel, Scott Rice, Shanon Robinson, and Kolby Stephens.

This year's camp theme, "iLife," engaged campers in fun-filled, action-packed activities focused on team building, exhibiting a positive attitude, character building, citizenship and a motivated chapter officer team. Special presenters included motivational speakers Bill Cordes of Kansas, Dr. Rick Rigsby, Texas, Michael Karpovich, Wisconsin, as well as veterinarian turned hypnotist, Dr. Al Snyder, Wisconsin.

Local families, friends and community supporters purchased FFA Alumni memberships to finance the FFA members' participation in the leadership camp, sponsored by the Oklahoma FFA Alumni Association, the Oklahoma Ford Dealers, Sonic--America's Drive-In, and Dr. Pepper. An FFA member may attend camp at no charge for every 12 annual FFA Alumni members in their local affiliate.

FFA Leadership Camp was planned and conducted by the 2008-09 state FFA officer team. They include: Chelsea Clifton, president, Kingfisher; Chasity Beasler, secretary, Wellston; Carly Schnaithman, reporter, Garber; Blake Matlock, central vice president, Tecumseh; Riley Pagett, northwest vice president, Woodward; Sarah Reasnor, southwest vice president, Elgin; Amy Peel, southeast vice president, Wetumka; and Stasha Harp, northeast vice president, Kansas, Okla.

The FFA and FFA Alumni are an integral part of the Agricultural Education Division within the Oklahoma Career Tech system. The primary aim of the Oklahoma FFA Alumni Association is to provide a strong, efficient, statewide organization to promote, serve, and support agricultural education and the FFA.
