Wyobraska cattle auction report

The combined sales volume of Wyoming, western Nebraska, and western North and South Dakota auctions for the week ending Sept. 20, totaled 7,000 head, compared to 4,800 head last week and 6,200 head last year, according to the USDA-Wyoming Department of Agriculture Market News, Torrington, Wyo.

Compared to last week at Wyoming auctions, feeder steers and heifers mostly steady to $5 lower. Direct trading was slow. Comparable direct feeder steers were steady, and there were no comparable heifer sales. Buyer inquiry and demand were light to moderate for moderate offerings. Unless otherwise noted, direct prices are current FOB with a 2 to 3% shrink or equivalent, and with a 5 to 10 cent slide on calves and 3 to 6 cent slide on yearlings from base weight. Steers made up approximately 51% of the supply, heifers 49%, with 54% over 600 pounds. Direct sales accounted for 3120 head of the total receipts.
