State Fair of Texas Wine Garden uncorks Texas Wine Month

Texas

Award-winning Texas wines are coming to the State Fair. For the second year, the State Fair of Texas Wine Garden, presented by Kroger and sponsored by the Texas Department of Agriculture, allows fairgoers the chance to explore the world of wine while meeting the people who have put the Lone Star State on the worldwide winemaking map. October also is Texas Wine Month, an annual celebration of the state's thriving wine and grape-growing industry.

"The Wine Garden provides a wonderful atmosphere for tasting and learning about Texas wines in true Texas style," Commissioner Todd Staples said. "Considering that more than 3 million Texans visit the State Fair, this will be a Texas-sized tasting and a reminder that Texas is the fifth-largest wine producing state in the country, contributing $1.35 billion to the state's economy."

At the State Fair of Texas Wine Garden, visitors will find:

--Opportunities to talk to participating Texas winemakers;

--Wine experts conducting "Wine 101" seminars;

--Free food samplings from vendors who are members of TDA's GO TEXAN program; and

--Presentations by statewide visitors' bureaus, chambers of commerce and community leaders.

The wine garden, located on Nimitz Drive, is across the street from the Creative Arts Building and the historic Cotton Bowl. It is open noon to 7 p.m. every day of the fair from Sept. 26 to Oct. 19.

Also at the fair, be sure to visit TDA's Food and Fiber Pavilion, presented by Borden. Adjacent to the wine garden, the Food and Fiber Pavilion displays the world of Texas agriculture. Visitors are also invited to shop at the pavilion's GO TEXAN stores.
