Springfield livestock sales reportThe Springfield Livestock Marketing Center, Springfield, Mo., reported receipts of 2,131 head Sept. 24, compared to 1,945 head last week and 2,275 head last year, according to the Missouri Department of Agriculture-USDA Market News Service, Jefferson City, Mo. Compared to last week, steers under 500 pounds were steady to $3 lower, 500 to 650 pounds were $2 to $4 lower, over 650 pounds were steady, Holsteins under 500 pounds were steady to $5 higher, over 500 pounds were steady, heifers under 600 pounds were steady to $3 lower, over 600 pounds were steady. Demand was moderate to light, supply was moderate. The bulk of the offering was calves that have only seen the catch pens for the first time. Price spreads were wider as buyers were price conscious and more selective for quality and condition. The feeder supply included 29% steers, 14% Holsteins, 38% heifers, 19% bulls, with 33% over 600 pounds. Feeder steers: Medium and large frame 1, 400 to 500 lbs., 117.50 to 125.00; 500 to 600 lbs., 102.00 to 111.00; 600 to 700 lbs., 104.50 to 109.00, calves 98.00 to 106.00; 700 to 725 lbs., 106.00 to 108.50.
