Spring barley harvest near completionColorado Most of Colorado experienced precipitation levels below average for this time of year, although the central portion of the state reported above average levels during the week ending Sept. 21, according to the National Agricultural Statistics Service, Colorado Field Office, Sept. 22. Temperatures for the state averaged around normal levels. Producers were allowed 6.6 days in the field for operations. Spring barley completed the harvest stage. Spring wheat was 82 percent harvested and is rated in mostly good condition. Winter wheat was 58 percent seeded and 18 percent emerged by the end of the week. The corn crop was 94 percent dented, 52 percent mature, and 7 percent harvested with the crop in mostly fair to good condition. Sorghum was 55 percent mature and 7 percent harvested with the crop in mostly fair condition. Sugarbeets were 4 percent harvested and in mostly good condition. Pasture and range conditions across Colorado were rated mostly fair. Third cutting alfalfa was 78 percent complete while fourth cutting was 10 percent harvested. The crop was rated in mostly fair to good condition. Death losses for cattle, sheep and lambs were rated just below average.
