Sioux Falls sheep sales

The Sioux Falls sheep auction, Sioux Falls, S.D., reported receipts of 1,104 head Sept. 23, compared to 1,336 head last week and 1,247 head last year, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News Service, Sioux Falls, S.D.

Compared to last week, slaughter lambs sold fully steady. Slaughter ewes sold $2 to $4 lower on a light test. Feeder lambs displaying more attractive quality than last week's offering sold $2 to $3 higher also on a light test. Receipts included about 60% slaughter lambs, 12% slaughter ewes, 18% feeder lambs and the balance was bucks and miscellaneous sheep. Buyer attendance was moderate with moderate to good demand.

Slaughter lambs: Shorn Choice and Prime 2 to 3, 135 to 141 lbs., 95.25 to 98.25 (97.61). Shorn Choice 2 to 3, 10 head, 112 to 115 lbs., 89.00 to 90.50 (89.89); 12 head, 139 lbs., 93.00. Wooled, Choice and Prime 2 to 3, 27 head, 126 lbs., 95.50; 130 to 146 lbs., 94.25 to 97.00 (95.41); 160 to 163 lbs., 94.00 to 95.00 (94.93). Wooled, Choice and Prime 2 to 4, 5 head, 154 lbs., 94.50. Wooled, Choice 2 to 3, 22 head, 103 lbs., 90.00; 114 to 119 lbs., 93.00 to 93.75 (93.52).

Slaughter ewes: Good and Choice 2 to 4, fleshy, 11 head, 155 lbs., 37.00. Good and Choice 3 to 4 fleshy, 5 head, 228 lbs., 31.00. Good 2 to 3 fleshy; 14 head, 168 to 172 lbs., 21.00 to 26.00 (23.17); 178 to 184 lbs., 18.50 full. Cull and Utility 1 to 2, thin to medium flesh, 17 head, 130 to 143 lbs., 12.00 to 15.00 (13.77); 161 to 172 lbs., 11.25 to 14.50 (13.75). Cull 1, thin, 18 head, 142 to 158 lbs., 8.00 to 10.00 (9.04).

Feeder lambs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 13 head, 46 lbs., 103.00; 64 to 67 lbs., 96.00 to 101.00 (98.32); 83 to 89 lbs., 95.00 to 101.00 (96.37); 92 to 95 lbs., 90.00 to 98.00 (96.33); 10 head, 104 to 108 lbs., 91.50 to 92.00 (91.85). Small and medium frame 1 to 2, 17 head, 108 lbs., 85.00 to 89.50 (87.65).

Slaughter kids: Selection 1, 14 head, 56 lbs., 101.00. Selection 2, 5 head, 35 lbs., 50.00.

Slaughter nannies/does: Selection 1 to 2, 6 head, 133 lbs., 36.00.
