Pratt livestock sales report

Pratt Livestock Sales Inc., Pratt, Kan., reported receipts of 2,642 head, Sept. 18, compared to 3,230 head, last week and 3,059 head, last year, according to the USDA-Kansas Department of Agriculture Market News, Dodge City, Kan.

Compared with last week, steers at 700 to 900 pounds were $3 to $5 lower, the bulk of trade were $3 to $4 lower. Heifers at 650 to 950 pounds were $4 to $6 lower, and a few instances were $7 lower on heifers over 800 pounds. Steers at 700 pounds and heifers at 600 pounds and under were not enough for a market test but a lower undertone was noted. Slaughter cows and bulls were $2 lower. Trade was slow, demand moderate for steers and light for heifers. Receipts included 79% 600 pounds and over, 11% 600 pounds and under, 10% slaughter cows and bulls. The feeder supply included 59% steers and 41% heifers.

Slaughter cows: Boners, 80 to 85% lean, 56.50 to 59.00. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 50.00 to 56.00; high dressing, 57.00 to 59.75; low dressing, 43.00 to 49.50.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 68.25 to 72.00; low dressing, 60.50 to 67.50.
