OKC West livestock sales reportThe OKC West Livestock Market Inc., El Reno, Okla., reported receipts of 4,177 head Sept. 24, compared to 3,565 head last week and 3,793 head last year, according to the USDA-Oklahoma Department of Agriculture market News, Oklahoma City, Okla. Compared to last week, feeder steers were steady to $1 higher. Feeder heifers were steady in a light test. Demand was good for feeder cattle. Steer and heifer calves lightly tested and $2 to $3 lower. Demand remains moderate for calves as most farmers in the fields drilling wheat. The supply included 72% over 600 pounds, 21% under 600 pounds, 7% cows and bulls. The total supply consisted of 37% heifers. Slaughter cows were $1 to $2 lower. Slaughter bulls were $1 lower. Packer demand was moderate as cow meat continues to decline. A total of 292 cows and bulls sold with 68% going to packers.
