North Arkansas livestock sales report

The North Arkansas Livestock, Green Forest, Ark., reported receipts of 1,468 head Sept. 24, compared to 1,394 and 1,702 head last year, according to the Arkansas Department of Agriculture-USDA Market News, Little Rock, Ark.

Compared to last week, slaughter cows and bulls were $2 to $3 lower. Feeder steers mixed with few 350 to 400 pounds were $1 higher, over 400 pounds were mostly $2 to $5 lower with full decline on calves. Feeder heifers 400 to 500 pounds were steady to $1 higher, all other weights were $1 to $5 lower. The supply included about 759 feeders, 528 yearlings, 71 replacement cows, 100 slaughter cows, and 10 slaughter bulls. The feeder supply included 45% steers, 41% heifers, and 14% bulls, with nearly 26% of the run over 600 pounds. Prices follow with weighted average price in parenthesis.

Slaughter cows: Breakers, 75 to 80% lean, 1000 to 1500 lbs., 47.50 to 50.00; high dressing, 51.00 to 54.50. Boners, 80 to 85% lean, 950 to 1400 lbs., 45.00 to 51.00; high dressing, 52.00 to 57.50. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 900 to 1300 lbs., 44.00 to 49.00; high dressing, 49.50 to 55.50; low dressing, 35.00 to 42.00. Light, 85 to 92% lean, 700 to 950 lbs., 35.00 to 42.00.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 1000 to 2100 lbs., 57.50 to 64.50; high dressing, 65.00 to 67.00; low dressing, 53.00 to 55.00.
