Newell sheep sales report

St. Onge Livestock Co., Ltd., St. Onge, S.D., reported receipts of 8,604 head Sept. 18, compared to 2,197 head last week and 11,610 head last year, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News, Sioux Falls, S.D.

Due to a special feeder lamb and ewe sale, no accurate trends were available compared to last week's light run. Buyer attendance was good with good demand. The supply consisted of 11% slaughter ewes, 54% feeder lambs, 22% replacement ewes and the balance was slaughter lambs, bucks and miscellaneous sheep and goats.

Slaughter lambs: Wooled, Good 1 to 2, 15 head, 108 lbs., 88.00; 114 to 120 lbs., 85.00 to 88.00 (86.47). Good 2 to 3, fleshy, 331 head, 146 lbs., 17.25; 264 head, 173 lbs., 21.25; 23 head, 210 lbs., 18.50. Utility 1 to 2, medium fleshed, 52 head, 146 lbs., 15.75. Cull and Utility 1 to 2, thin to medium fleshed, 233 head, 132 lbs., 10.00. Cull 1 to 2, thin, 12 head, 135 lbs., 4.00; 5 head, 165 lbs., 5.00.

Feeder lambs: Medium and Large 1 to 2, 302 head, 56 lbs., 119.35; 65 to 66 lbs., 112.50 to 113.50 (112.93); 80 to 89 lbs., 96.25 to 100.00 (97.54); 283 head, 86 lbs., 102.25 ewe lambs; 90 to 98 lbs., 92.75 to 98.25 (96.59); 91 to 98 lbs., 96.25 to 98.50 (96.88) ewe lambs; 100 to 107 lbs., 93.00 to 97.25 (94.85); 133 head, 108 lbs., 96.00 blackface; 41 head, 122 lbs., 93.50 Ewe lambs. Medium and large frame 2, 71 to 78 lbs., 100.50 to 106.50 (103.57); 41 head, 75 lbs., 99.00 ewe lambs; 80 to 82 lbs., 94.50 to 99.25 (98.52).

Replacement ewes: Medium and Large 1 to 2, whiteface, 633 head, 134 to 163 lbs., yearlings 150.00 to 170.00, mostly 165.00 to 167.50; 76 head, 107 to 132 lbs., yearlings 110.00 to 115.00; 162 head, 175 lbs., 2 to 3 years old, 145.00; 257 head, 164 to 179 lbs., 3 to 6 years old, 80.00 to 85.00; 311 head, 146 to 175 lbs., 5 to 6 years old, 62.50 to 65.00; 129 head, 158 to 193 lbs., mixed 97.50 to 100.00; 317 head, 156 to 175 lbs., mixed 75.00 to 85.00
