NRCS needs input on conservation cost-share programs

Colorado

As the Natural Resources Conservation Service in Colorado prepares to deliver the conservation programs of the new 2008 farm bill over the next five years, the Agency is conducting a series of public input sessions across the state. Each meeting is designed for NRCS natural resource partners and customers to share their natural resource conservation concerns, priorities and suggestions for program improvement and direction. The input session in the Lower Arkansas Watershed will be held in Lamar, Colo., at the Colorado Division of Wildlife Building, 2500 South Main Street, Sept. 29, at 1 p.m.

The 2008 farm bill has passed and the rule making process is underway. Although the public will have an opportunity to share and provide input into the rule making process on a National level, NRCS in Colorado is working to ensure that traditional and non-traditional partners as well as farmers and ranchers have an opportunity provide input and guidance into the way the Agency will administer the conservation programs in our state.

"Many of the conservation programs we deliver have cost-share and other financial assistance opportunities," states, John Knapp, NRCS Area Conservationist in La Junta. "We want and need to hear from the citizens we serve and the partners we rely on to help us reach our mission as we make decisions about issues from water conservation to invasive species."

NRCS encourages farmers, ranchers, conservation partners, and agricultural landowners within the Lower Arkansas Watershed to join them on September 29. NRCS is planning an informative and highly interactive exchange.
