Huron cattle sales reportThe Bales Continental Commission Co., Huron, S.D., reported receipts of 1,088 head Sept. 18, compared to 1,282 head last year, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News, Sioux Falls, S.D. This is the first auction for the fall of 2008, so trend comparisons were not applicable. Many load lots were in the offering. Steers comprised 76% of the run, heifers 24%, with 93% of the run over 600 pounds. Feeder steers: Medium and large frame 1, 30 head, 428 lbs., 116.25; 705 to 720 lbs., 108.85; 69 head, 776 lbs., 107.00; 813 to 835 lbs., 106.50 to 109.75 (108.69); 872 to 874 lbs., 107.60 to 107.85 (107.73); 54 head, 940 lbs., 103.50; 55 head, 951 lbs., 103.25. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 5 head, 629 lbs., 109.00; 13 head, 701 to 730 lbs., 105.00 to 106.50 (105.59); 11 head, 796 lbs., 89.50. Feeder heifers: Medium and large frame 1, 37 head, 422 lbs., 103.00; 5 head, 783 lbs., 101.75; 14 head, 816 to 831 lbs., 98.75 to 100.00 (99.47); 925 to 928 lbs., 95.75 to 98.25 (96.02); 961 to 985 lbs., 99.50 to 100.00 (99.80); 9 head, 1016 lbs., 99.50.
