Crops in mostly good condition

New Mexico

During the week ending Sept. 21, there were 6.7 days suitable for fieldwork, according to the National Agricutural Statistics Service, New Mexico Field Office, Sept. 22.

Topsoil moisture was 13 percent very short, 31 percent short, 55 percent adequate, and 1 percent surplus. Wind damage was 5 percent light and 2 percent moderate.

Alfalfa was mostly good with the fifth cutting 62 percent complete. Cotton was mostly good with 45 percent of bolls opening.

Corn was mostly good with 80 percent in the dent stage and 35 percent mature. Irrigated sorghum was mostly good with 75 percent coloring and 11 percent mature. Dry sorghum was mostly poor to fair with 83 percent headed and 56 percent coloring.

Chile was mostly good with 83 percent of the green harvest and 19 percent of the red harvest completed. Peanuts were mostly fair to good with 27 percent harvested. Pecans were mostly good.

Cattle were mostly good. Sheep were mostly fair to good. Range and pastures were mostly fair to good.
