Colorado cattle sales report

The Colorado Auction Feeder Cattle Summary, Greeley, Colo., reported receipts of 2,699 head Sept. 19, compared to 1,676 head last week and 3,240 head last year, according to the USDA-Colorado Department of Agriculture Market News, Greeley, Colo.

Compared to last week, yearling steers and heifers sold steady to $2 lower. Steer and heifer calves sold $2 to $4 lower, with instances of $5 to $7 lower in the latter part of the week. Demand was moderate to good. The sharp decline of the beef complex coupled with less than favorable weaning weather led to hesitance from many calf buyers. Buyers continue to show interest in yearling cattle coming off grass. Auction numbers are beginning to pick up as we approach fall.
