Amarillo livestock sales reportThe Amarillo Livestock Auction, Amarillo, Texas, reported receipts of 1,673 head Sept. 23, compared to 444 head last week and 1,166 head last year, according to the USDA-Texas Department of Agriculture Market News, Amarillo, Texas. Compared to last week, feeder steers and heifers over 600 pounds were $1 to $2 lower and under 600 pounds were $2 to $6 lower. Several large strings of yearlings were in the moderate to full condition and most of the calves were unweaned. Slaughter cows and bulls were $2 to $3 lower on a light test. The bulk of the supply were Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 400- to 900-pound feeder steers and heifers. Trade was slow and demand light. Slaughter cows made up 3% of the offering, slaughter bulls 1%, replacement cows 1% and feeders 95%. The feeder supply included 41% steers and 59% heifers, with nearly 75% of the run over 600 pounds.
