St. Onge livestock salesThe St. Onge Livestock Sales Co., Ltd., St. Onge, S.D., reported receipts of 3,552 head Sept. 12, compared to 3,646 head two weeks ago and 4,424 head last year, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News, Sioux Falls, S.D. Compared to two weeks ago, feeder steers and heifers sold mostly $2 to $3 lower. Slaughter cows sold steady to $1 higher. Slaughter bulls sold steady. There was good buyer attendance with good demand for slaughter cows and bulls and moderate demand for feeder cattle. Higher grain prices on the futures board has caused conservative trade for feeder cattle. The supply consisted of approximately 7% slaughter cows and bulls, 93% feeders. The feeder supply consisted 34% steers, 66% heifers, and 94% weighing over 600 pounds.
