St. Onge livestock sales

The St. Onge Livestock Sales Co., Ltd., St. Onge, S.D., reported receipts of 3,552 head Sept. 12, compared to 3,646 head two weeks ago and 4,424 head last year, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News, Sioux Falls, S.D.

Compared to two weeks ago, feeder steers and heifers sold mostly $2 to $3 lower. Slaughter cows sold steady to $1 higher. Slaughter bulls sold steady. There was good buyer attendance with good demand for slaughter cows and bulls and moderate demand for feeder cattle. Higher grain prices on the futures board has caused conservative trade for feeder cattle. The supply consisted of approximately 7% slaughter cows and bulls, 93% feeders. The feeder supply consisted 34% steers, 66% heifers, and 94% weighing over 600 pounds.

Feeder steers: Medium and large frame 1, 520 to 540 lbs., 113.00 to 117.00 (115.99); 75 head, 575 lbs., 117.00; 91 head, 688 lbs., 114.50; 669 to 680 lbs., 116.00 to 116.25 (116.23) calves; 5 head, 707 lbs., 105.50; 703 to 736 lbs., 111.00 to 114.00 (111.58) calves; 8 head, 712 lbs., 113.00 thin; 758 to 792 lbs., 107.75 to 111.50 (109.76); 26 head, 767 lbs., 110.50 calves; 23 head, 775 lbs., 100.25 full; 804 to 842 lbs., 104.00 to 108.50 (107.10); 856 to 897 lbs., 101.25 to 107.50 (105.41); 903 to 934 lbs., 101.25 to 106.75 (103.94); 962 to 984 lbs., 101.00 to 103.75 (102.78)l; 1003 to 1024 lbs., 98.50 to 102.75 (101.95); 21 head, 1053 lbs., 100.50. Medium frame 1 to 2, 5 head, 614 lbs., 108.50; 20 head, 769 to 777 lbs., 102.50 to 103.00 (102.70); 9 head, 849 lbs., 100.50.
