Ozark Empire Farmfest Oct. 3 to 5As fall approaches producers begin looking forward to cooler weather, the changing of the seasons and calving time. But there is even more to look forward to this year--the Ozark Fall Farmfest. Farmfest is slated for Oct. 3 to 5 at the Ozark Empire Fairgrounds in Springfield, Mo. Farmfest will feature more than 750 exhibits indoors and out as well as barns full of livestock to look at. With its 29-year heritage, Farmfest is a traditional event with thousands of area farm and ranch families. It's a place where they can see what's new, where they can compare products and where they can have a fun-filled family weekend, all with no admission or parking charges. From 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., each day, Farmfest visitors can check out just about everything from tools to tractors, feed to four-wheelers and cows to corn stoves. The live animal segment of the show presents a unique opportunity for stockmen to take a look at the kind of breeding stock available to them and learn more about the animals from the breeders themselves. Beef cattle breeds include Angus, Belgian Blue, Brahman, Brangus, Braunvieh, Beefmaster, Charolais, Gelbvieh, Hereford, Limousin, Longhorn, Red Angus, Romagnola, Salers, Shorthorn and Simmental. There will also be a wide array of horses for the equine enthusiasts. Other livestock includes Boer goats, dairy goats, Katahdin hair sheep and show pigs. As for the rest of the Farmfest, indoors and out, the site of the Ozark Empire Fair will be brimming over with trailers, tractors, cattle chutes, gates and panels, waterers, fencing, tools, trucks, forage equipment--the list goes on and on. Additionally, there will be rural living displays where a host of products designed to enhance the rural lifestyle will be on display. Once again, well-known stock dog trainer Danny Shilling from Bois D'Arc, Mo., will present daily stock dog clinics. Outstanding displays of antique equipment will be featured as the Ozarks Steam Engine Association and the Southwest Missouri Early Day Gas Engine and Tractor Association open a window to the past with an assortment of rare tractors, engines and old-time farm implements. Hours for the Ozark Fall Farmfest are from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Oct. 3 to 5. Admission and parking are free. The Ozark Empire Fairgrounds are easily accessed on the north side of Springfield, Mo., just off Interstate 44 at Exit 77. The Ozark Fall Farmfest is sponsored by the Ozark Empire Fairgrounds and Farm Talk Newspaper. For more information, contact the Ozark Empire Fairgrounds at 417-833-2660 or Farm Talk at 620-421-9450.
