OKC West livestock sales report

The OKC West Livestock Market Inc., El Reno, Okla., reported receipts of 3,565 head Sept. 17, compared to 6,042 head last week and 4,888 head last year, according to the USDA-Oklahoma Department of Agriculture Market News, Oklahoma City, Okla.

Compared to last week, feeder cattle and calves were $2 to $3 lower, though feeder heifers and all calves were lightly tested. Demand was moderate to good for feeder cattle as commodity markets remain very unstable. Calf demand was moderate at best but many farmers were in the field drilling wheat. Weather was sunny and dry, perfect for planting. Quality of feeder cattle was plain through attractive with several thin-fleshed or attractive kinds available. Weigh-ups were gaunt to average, few full. The supply consisted of 78% over 600 pounds, 14% under 600 pounds, 8% cows and bulls. The total included 23% heifers. Slaughter cows were steady to $2 lower, decline on lean cows. Slaughter bulls were $2 to $3 lower. Packer demand was moderate with most action from southern buyers. A total of 292 cows and bulls sold with 63% going to packers.

Feeder steers: Medium and large frame 1, calves, few 375 to 400 lbs., 118.00 to 126.00; package 400 lbs., 121.00; few 475 to 500 lbs., fleshy 105.00 to 108.00; 525 to 535 lbs., 116.00 to 117.00; 550 to 600 lbs., fleshy 101.00 to 106.00; 600 to 700 lbs., 101.00 to 105.00; Yearlings: 600 to 700 lbs., 109.50 to 113.75; 700 to 800 lbs., 106.50 to 110.75; 800 to 850 lbs., 106.50 to 108.00; few 850 to 900 lbs., 104.00 to 105.50; 900 to 950 lbs., 102.00 to 104.75. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 600 to 700 lbs., 108.25 to 112.00; 700 to 800 lbs., 107.50 to 109.75; 800 to 900 lbs., 103.00 to 107.75; 900 lbs., 103.50. Medium and large frame 2, 575 to 600 lbs., 109.00 to 110.00; 600 to 650 lbs., 107.50 to 109.50; 750 to 800 lbs., 105.50 to 108.50; 850 to 900 lbs., 103.00 to 104.00; 925 lbs., 102.00.

Feeder heifers: Medium and large frame 1, calves, 350 to 400 lbs., 108.00 to 114.00; 400 to 425 lbs., 109.00 to 110.00; 440 to 500 lbs., fleshy 95.00 to 101.00; 500 to 600 lbs., 103.00 to 109.00, fleshy 100.00 to 107.00; 600 to 675 lbs., 92.50 to 102.00; yearlings, 625 to 700 lbs., 104.00 to 108.00; few 700 to 800 lbs., 99.00 to 103.00; few 875 to 900 lbs., 98.00 to 98.75. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 600 to 700 lbs., 103.00 to 104.50; few lots 700 to 760 lbs., 99.50; 825 lbs., 99.25. Medium and large frame 2, 675 to 700 lbs., 98.50 to 103.00; 845 lbs., 96.00.

Slaughter cows: Breakers, 18 head, 75 to 80% lean, 1050 to 1650 lbs., 57.50 to 60.50; high dressing, 60.50 to 63.50; low dressing, 46.50 to 56.00. Boners, 47 head, 80 to 85% lean, 1000 to 1625 lbs., 57.00 to 60.00; high dressing, 60.00 to 67.00; low dressing, 47.00 to 54.50. Lean, 54 head, 85 to 90% lean, 1000 to 1550 lbs., 52.50 to 56.00; high dressing, 58.50; low dressing, 44.00 to 50.00. Lights, 27 head, 80 to 85% lean, 800 to 1000 lbs., 50.00 to 52.00; high dressing, 54.00; low dressing, 43.00 to 49.00.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 21 head, 1500 to 2075 lbs., 70.00 to 71.00; high dressing, 72.00 to 73.50; low dressing, 57.00 to 65.50; very low 50.00 to 55.50.

Replacement cows: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 4 to 6 years old, 1075 to 1150 lbs., 3 to 7 months bred, average blacks, 820.00 to 870.00; 5 to 6 years old, 1100 to 1200 lbs., 3 to 7 months bred, average blacks, 740.00; 9 to 10 years old, 1250 lbs., 6 to 7 months bred, average quality, 610.00.
