Newell sheep sales report

St. Onge Livestock Co., Ltd., Newell, S.D., reported receipts of 2,197 head Sept. 11, compared to 1,822 head last week and 3,448 head last year, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News, Sioux Falls, S.D.

Compared to last week's sale, feeder lambs sold steady to $1 higher. Slaughter ewes sold steady to $1 lower. Buyer attendance was moderate with moderate demand. The supply consisted of 21% slaughter ewes and 79% feeder lambs.

Slaughter ewes: Good 2 to 3, fleshy, 232 head, 167 lbs., 20.75; 24 head, 201 lbs., 17.25. Utility 1 to 2, medium fleshed; 102 head, 148 lbs., 15.75. Cull and Utility 1 to 2, thin to medium fleshed, 131 to 134 lbs., 8.50 to 10.75 (9.57).

Feeder lambs: Medium and Large 1 to 2, 86 to 89 lbs., 94.75 to 98.75 (96.71); 90 to 98 lbs., 95.50 to 99.25 (98.47); 45 head, 105 lbs., 96.00; 111 to 112 lbs., 91.00 to 94.50 (93.67); 15 head, 117 lbs., 85.00 blackface. Medium and large frame 2, 70 to 71 lbs., 94.75 to 96.50 (96.15); 83 to 89 lbs., 92.50 to 94.00 (92.81). Medium frame 1 to 2, 15 head, 57 lbs., 96.50; 33 head, 67 lbs., 95.00 to 95.25 (95.11).

Replacement ewes: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 52 head, 169 lbs., 66.00 per head; 57 head, 161 lbs., 43.00 per head.
