Kansas Income Tax Institute dates set for eight locationsKansas The dates are set now for Kansas State University's 60th annual Kansas Income Tax Institute, scheduled for eight locations across Kansas. The two-day institute, sponsored by K-State Research and Extension, is designed for attorneys, accountants, economists, Extension agents, anyone who is interested in learning about tax issues as they affect small businesses, agricultural operations, retirement and related topics. The institute begins at each location with registration at 7:30 a.m., and the program at 8 a.m. Sessions will adjourn each day at 4:30 p.m. The cost of the institute for both days is $220 if paid at least two weeks prior to the date of the session for which a participant enrolls. The late registration fee for both days, including registration at the door, is $245. One-day registration is $155 if paid two weeks ahead or $$175 if paid late. The fee includes the current Kansas Income Tax Institute Workbook, the past four years' workbooks on CD, and noon meals. Topics to be addressed the first day include: new legislation, rulings and cases, employment taxation, Form 4797, Social Security update, depreciation, limited liability companies, Kansas tax issues, and ethics. The second day's presentations will include: agricultural issues, small business issues, individual taxpayer problems, Internal Revenue Service update, financial distress, trust taxation, retirement, education tax incentives, and ethics. A total of 16 hours of continuing education credit for attending the institute is available through numerous agencies. This year's program also provides 1 credit of ethics. Featured speakers will include Roger McEowen, agricultural law professor and director of the Iowa State University Center for Agricultural Law and Taxation in Ames, Iowa; Andrew Morehead, accountant practicing in Eaton, Colo., and past president of Public Accountants Society of Colorado; Bill Parrish, accountant in Kansas City, Mo., and past president of the Public Accountants Association of Kansas; Ronald Grant, IRS attorney and tax specialist from Topeka, Kan.; and Ross Hirst, IRS senior stakeholder liaison, Mission, Kan.
