Experience local farms during the 4th Annual Kaw Valley Farm TourKansas The Kaw Valley region of northeast Kansas offers a wealth of unique agricultural sights, tastes and traditions. The 2008 Kaw Valley Farm Tour, Oct. 4 and 5, celebrates those experiences. Fifteen participating farms will open their venues to the public for the weekend of Oct. 4 and 5 and will offer special activities for kids, families and adults that are available only during the tour. The farms will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The participating farms produce a variety of products including nuts, fruits, wines, flowers, pumpkins, bison, honey and wool products. Special activities will include horse-drawn hayrides, opportunities to sample and purchase farm-fresh foods, educational tours, wine tastings and pick-your-own farms. A $10 pass provides a carload entrance to all the farms for the entire weekend, so the biggest challenge will be deciding which farms to visit. Tickets for the tour may be purchased in advance from Community Mercantile Coop, 901 Iowa St.; Lawrence Visitor Information Center, 402 N. 2nd St.; K-State Research & Extension Douglas County, 2110 Harper; Downtown Lawrence Farmer's Market or at any participating farm during the event. Tickets may also be purchased online at www.quiltingfabricsupply.com. Additional information and maps are available online at www.visitlawrence.com/farmtour or at www.kawvalleyfarmtour.org. Other weekend activities include the Breakfast on the Farm, Oct. 5 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., at Pendleton's Country Market, 1446 E. 1850 Rd., just east of Lawrence. Help celebrate the Farm Tour's fourth year with a breakfast of fresh pastries, coffee and cider using locally-produced foods prepared by the Merc Deli. Tickets are $5/adult and $3/child and are available at the Community Mercantile, 901 Iowa Street in advance. 9/22/08 Date: 9/18/08
