Corn yield forecast at record high

South Dakota

South Dakota's Sept. 1 corn production is forecast at 567.0 million bushels, according to the South Dakota office of U.S. Department of Agriculture's National Agricultural Statistics Service. The forecast unchanged from last month and up 4 percent from last year's level. Yield, forecast at 135 bushels per acre, unchanged from last month's record high yield forecast. The forecasted yield is up 14 bushels from last year's yield. Acres to be harvested for grain, at 4.2 million, are down 7 percent from last year's 4.5 million acres harvested.

South Dakota's Sept. 1 soybean production forecast is 161.6 million bushels, down 2 percent from month's forecast but up 21 percent from last year's level. The estimated yield of 40 bushels per acre is down bushel from last month and down 2 bushels from last year. Acres for harvest, at 4.04 million, are up 27 percent from last year.

Sorghum production is forecast at 7.15 million bushels, up 8 percent from last month's forecast but down percent from 2007. Expected yield, at 65 bushels per acre, is up 5 bushels from last month and up 3 bushels last year. Grain sorghum harvested acres, at 110,000, are down 15 percent from last year.
