Construction set to begin on corn seed plant

INDEPENDENCE, Iowa (AP)--Construction began in early September on a $90 million corn seed production facility in northeast Iowa.

A groundbreaking ceremony was scheduled for Sept. 8 at the Dekalb plant site in Independence.

Monsanto Co. officials say the plant will be capable of packing 1,200 bags of corn seed per hour when it is completed.

Officials say it is expected to employ 40 full-time workers and 1,000 part-time workers.
