Amarillo livestock salesThe Amarillo Livestock Auction, Amarillo, Texas, reported receipts of 444 head Sept. 16, compared to 741 head last week and 1,456 head last year, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News, Amarillo, Texas. Compared to last week, there was an extremely light test this week with a steady undertone on the few comparable sales of steer and heifer calves under 600 pounds and yearling heifers over 700 pounds traded $1 to $2 lower. There was no test on feeder steers. Slaughter cows and bulls were not enough for an adequate market test but a steady undertone was noted. The bulk of the supply were Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 300- to 800-pound feeder steers and heifers. Trade and demand were light to moderate. Slaughter cows made up 10% of the offering, slaughter bulls 2%, replacement cows 2% and feeders 86%. The feeder supply included 22% steers and 78% heifers, with nearly 48% of the run over 600 pounds. Steers: Medium and large frame 1, package 352 lbs., 152.00; package 422 lbs., 132.00. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, package 383 lbs., 127.00; few 400 to 440 lbs., 116.00 to 128.00; package 702 lbs., 102.00. Feeder bulls: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 440 to 500 lbs., 106.00 to 118.00; 500 to 525 lbs., few 107.00; package 688 lbs., 98.00; package 724 lbs., 94.00. Heifers: Medium and large frame 1, 340 to 350 lbs., few 118.00; package 440 lbs., 113.00; package 846 lbs., 98.00. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, few 225 to 300 lbs., 114.00 to 119.00; 300 to 400 lbs., 109.00 to 120.00; 500 to 600 lbs., 100.00 to 102.00; 600 to 700 lbs., calves 97.00 to 98.00, yearlings 102.00; load 774 lbs., 101.75. Slaughter cows: Breakers, 75 to 80% lean, 1200 to 1600 lbs., few 58.50. Boners, 80 to 85% lean, 1000 to 1500 lbs., 59.00 to 60.00; high dressing, 60.00 to 61.00; low dressing, 55.00. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 1000 to 1200 lbs., 54.00 to 57.00; low dressing, 49.00 to 52.50. Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 1300 to 1900 lbs., 72.00 to 72.50; high dressing, 1400 to 2300 lbs., 69.50 to 70.50; low dressing, 1100 to 1500 lbs., 68.00 to 69.00.
