GOLDEN GOAT WINNERS

GOLDEN GOAT WINNERS--High Plains Journal staff members pose with the Golden Goat, emblematic of the championship of the 2008 Kansas State Fair Celebrity Goat Milking Contest, held recently at Hutchinson. The trio took second place in a series of heats then defeated Wichita radio station KICT (T-95) in the final round. The final round featured pygmy goats. The team of (pictured left to right) Doug Rich, Larry Dreiling and Matt May squeezed out one-tenth of an ounce of pygmy goat milk in the final 30-second round compared to five-one hundreth of an ounce for the T-95 team. Rich and Dreiling are senior field editors. May is retired as assistant circulation manager and still assists in subscription sales at fairs and farm shows. (Photo courtesy Kansas State Fair.)
