West Plains regional sale

The Ozarks Regional Stockyard, West Plains, Mo., reported receipts of 2,130 head Sept. 2, compared to 3,200 head last week and 4,300 head last year, according to the Missouri Department of Agriculture-USDA Market News Service, Jefferson City, Mo.

Compared to last week, steer and heifer calves under 650 pounds were steady, and a few front-end calves under 550 pounds were steady to $2 higher. Steers and heifers over 650 pounds were steady to $2 lower. Demand was moderate, and supply was moderate to light. The bulk of the calves were weaned with one to two rounds of vaccinations. Most the calves and yearlings were in medium to thin flesh. A few calves were fleshy or un-weaned. The feeder supply included 44% steers, 12% bulls, 43% heifers, with 45% over 600 pounds.
