Training offered to improve, promote nature-based enterprisesTexas The Texas AgriLife Extension Service is offering training in marketing and interpretive-guide techniques to employees or owners of nature-based enterprises. The program takes place Oct. 28 and 29 at the Quiet Hill Ranch, 110 Quiet Hill Ranch Road in Doss, about 25 miles northwest of Fredericksburg, said Miles Phillips, an AgriLife Extension specialist in recreation, parks and tourism. "Quality interpretive programs are helpful in increasing the value of your guests' experience," Phillips said. "Up-selling tours and creating word-of-mouth marketing for your attraction can mean a more profitable operation." The first day's workshop runs from 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., he said. It will focus on organized presentations and demonstrations designed to engage guests. The second day's program is scheduled from 9 a.m. to noon. It will involve practicing skills and interactive feedback. Courses on both days will include practical tips on handling group dynamics, difficult guests, safety issues and more. The program costs $75 per participant, which includes training materials, Phillips said. Space is limited to 16. Lunch will be provided on the first day. But participants will have to plan for food and lodging after that. Lodging with breakfast is available at the ranch. "I'm encouraging participants to bring their favorite books, props or other materials to use and share with the group," Phillips said. To register online, visit http://agrilifevents.tamu.edu . Information about the ranch can be found at http://quiethillranch.com. Phillips can be reached at 979-845-1023 or mdphillips@ag.tamu.edu. 9/15/08 Date: 9/11/08
