St. Onge livestock auction

The St. Onge Livestock Sales Co., Ltd., St. Onge, S.D., reported receipts of 322 head Sept. 5, compared to 3,646 head last week, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News, Sioux Falls, S.D.

There was a light run of feeders on offer for the sale, and not enough for an accurate trend compared to last week's heavy run. Slaughter cows sold steady. Buyer attendance was moderate with moderate demand. The supply consisted of approximately 5% slaughter cows and bulls, 41% feeders. The feeder supply included 32% steers, 68% heifers, with 100% weighing over 600 pounds.

Feeder steers: Medium and large frame 1, 10 head, 775 to 782 lbs., 104.75 to 108.00 (106.38); 12 head, 878 lbs., 106.50; 8 head, 979 to 990 lbs., 101.50 to 103.00 (102.81).

Feeder heifers: Medium and large frame 1, 8 head, 607 lbs., 106.50; 14 head, 713 to 725 lbs., 99.00 to 104.00 (102.55); 803 to 836 lbs., 103.00 to 105.50 (104.88); 6 head, 963 to 985 lbs., 98.50 to 102.50 (99.81); 11 head, 1000 to 1043 lbs., 100.00 to 102.00 (101.13).

Slaughter cows: Breakers, 75 to 80% lean, 1360 to 2065 lbs., 56.00 to 57.00; low dressing, 54.00 to 56.25. Boners, 80 to 85% lean, 1140 to 1570 lbs., 56.00 to 57.50; high dressing, 57.00 to 61.00. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 905 to 1290 lbs., 56.25 to 58.50; low dressing, 47.00 to 48.50.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 1110 to 2345 lbs., 62.00 to 67.00; high dressing, 64.50 to 69.00; low dressing, 53.00 to 54.00.
