Springfield cattle sales report

The Springfield Livestock Marketing Center, Springfield, Mo., reported receipts of 1,197 head Sept. 4, compared to 1,903 head last week and 1,778 head last year, according to the Missouri Department of Agriculture-USDA Market News, Jefferson City, Mo.

Compared to last week, steers under 700 pounds were steady and over 700 pounds were steady to $2 higher. Holsteins under 600 pounds were not well tested, and over 600 pounds were steady, except a few 650 to 800 pounds were $2 to $5 lower. Heifers under 500 pounds were steady to $3 lower and over 500 pounds were $1 to $3 higher. Demand was moderate and supply was moderate to light. A special Wean-vac sale was held in conjunction with the regular feeder cattle sale. The feeder supply included 32% steers, 12% Holsteins, 43% heifers, 12% bulls, with 62% over 600 pounds.

Feeder steers: Medium and large frame 1, 450 to 500 lbs., 117.00 to 120.00; 550 to 600 lbs., 114.00 to 115.50; 625 to 650 lbs., 111.50 to 113.50, 600 to 700 lbs., couple packages calves 107.00; 725 to 800 lbs., 108.50 to 114.00. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, package 298 lbs., 120.00; package 357 lbs., 121.00; lot 554 lbs., 115.00; 600 to 700 lbs., 106.50 to 115.50; 700 to 800 lbs., 109.00 to 111.50; package 887 lbs., 106.00. Medium and large frame 2, 400 to 450 lbs., 106.00 to 109.00; package 514 lbs., 104.00; 600 to 650 lbs., 100.00 to 109.00; package 747 lbs., 106.00; 800 to 900 lbs., 99.50 to 103.50.

Holsteins: Large frame 3, package 293 lbs., fleshy 71.00; package 402 lbs., thin 73.00, package 440 lbs., fleshy 70.00; package 493 lbs., 78.50; package 512 lbs., thin 70.00; 600 to 700 lbs., 73.50 to 80.00; 700 to 800 lbs., 70.00 to 72.50; load lot 884 lbs., 76.75; package 1117 lbs., 65.00.

Feeder heifers: Medium and large frame 1, 400 to 500 lbs., 100.00 to 108.00; 500 to 600 lbs., 103.50 to 110.00; 600 to 700 lbs., 103.00 to 109.50; 725 to 750 lbs., 105.00 to 105.50. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, package 271 lbs., thin 110.00; 300 to 375 lbs., 95.00 to 98.00; 400 to 500 lbs., 95.00 to 100.00, 400 to 450 lbs., thin few 109.00; 500 to 600 lbs., 97.00 to 107.00; 600 to 700 lbs., 97.00 to 104.50; 700 to 750 lbs., 97.50 to 106.00; lot 859 lbs., 92.50. Medium and large frame 2, package 461 lbs., 90.00; lot 673 lbs., 94.00; lot 763 lbs., 90.00.

Feeder bulls: Medium and large frame 1, 525 to 600 lbs., 104.00 to 107.00; package 707 lbs., 99.50. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 400 to 500 lbs., few 108.00 to 115.00; 500 to 600 lbs., 99.50 to 109.00; package 665 lbs., 103.00; package 703 lbs., 101.50.
