Sioux Falls sheep sales reportThe Sioux Falls sheep auction, Sioux Falls, S.D., reported receipts of 1,499 head Sept. 9, compared to 404 head last week and 1,427 head last year, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News Service, Sioux Falls, S.D. Compared to last week, slaughter lambs sold mostly steady. Demand was moderate, with active trade. No trend was available for slaughter ewes due to last week's light test. A heavier supply of feeder lambs were on offer, compared to last week's light run. Although feeder quality was more attractive, the light demand allowed for a weaker undertone in prices. Receipts consisted of 45% slaughter lambs, 22% slaughter ewes, and 33% feeder lambs. Slaughter lambs: Shorn Choice and Prime 2 to 3, 11 head, 108 lbs., 95.00; 12 head, 129 lbs., 97.25; 135 to 143 lbs., 96.00 to 99.25 (98.50). Shorn Choice 2 to 3, 114 to 125 lbs., 90.00 to 93.50 (91.87); 131 to 147 lbs., 92.50 to 95.50 (93.71). Wooled, Choice and Prime 2 to 3, 125 to 129 lbs., 94.75 to 97.00 (95.55); 133 to 145 lbs., 95.00 to 98.00 (97.01); 26 head, 165 lbs., 99.00. Wooled Choice 2 to 3, 115 to 125 lbs., 92.25 to 93.50 (92.90). Slaughter ewes: Good and Choice 2 to 3, fleshy, 21 head, 141 lbs., 46.50; 5 head, 199 lbs., 37.00. Good 2 to 3, fleshy, 155 to 159 lbs., 25.00 to 30.00 (29.06); 161 to 195 lbs., 23.00 to 25.00 (23.74). Utility and Good 2 to 3, fleshy to medium fleshed, 134 to 158 lbs., 18.00 to 23.00 (18.65); 8 head, 200 lbs., 15.00. Utility 1 to 2, medium fleshed, 130 to 150 lbs., 15.00 to 18.00 (16.28). Cull 1, light fleshed, 123 to 131 lbs., 10.00 to 12.00 (11.02); 8 head, 108 to 118 lbs., 10.00 to 10.50 (10.26). Feeder lambs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 74 to 79 lbs., 98.00 to 100.25 (99.05); 83 to 89 lbs., 92.75 to 95.00 (94.50); 16 head, 92 to 96 lbs., 91.00; 115 head, 103 lbs., 98.25.
