Pratt livestock sales report

Pratt Livestock Sales Inc., Pratt, Kan., reported receipts of 2,907 head Sept. 4, compared to 5,789 head last week and 2,590 head last year, according to the USDA-Kansas Department of Agriculture Market News, Dodge City, Kan.

Compared with last week, feeder steers at 700 to 850 pounds were $2 to $3 higher, 850 to 1,000 pounds were steady to $2 higher. Heifers at 650 to 800 pounds were weak to $2 lower, and 800 to 950 pounds were firm to $1 higher. Steers under 700 pounds and heifers under 650 pounds were not enough for a market test, but a higher undertone was noted. Slaughter cows and bulls were mostly steady. Trade and demand were moderate. Receipts included 83% over 600 pounds, 12% under 600 pounds and 5% slaughter cows and bulls. The feeder supply consisted of 65% steers and 35% heifers.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 69.50 to 74.00; low dressing, 60.00 to 69.00.
